Biografía:
Barbara Hammer nació en 1939 en Hollywood. Es una artista visual que ha hecho alrededor de 80 trabajos. Se la considera una pionera del cine gay. Recientemente se le rindió tributo con una retrospectiva en la Universidad Cultural China en Taiwan. Sus películas experimentales de los 70 a menudo tratan temas tabú como la menstruación, el orgasmo femenino y la sexualidad lesbiana. En los 80, utilizó impresión óptica para explorar la percepción y la fragilidad de la vida de la película de 16 mm. Optic Nerve (1985) y Endangered (1988) fueron seleccionadas para las bienales 85 y 89 del Museo Withney de Arte Norteamericano.

Barbara Hammer was born in Hollywood. She is a visual artist working has made over 80 works. She is considered a pioneer of queer cinema. She recently had a Tribute Retrospective at the Chinese Cultural University in Taiwan. Her experimental films of the 1970’s often dealt with taboo subjects such as menstruation, female orgasm and lesbian sexuality. In the 80’s she used optical printing to explore perception and the fragility of 16mm film life itself. Optic Nerve (1985) and Endangered (1988) were selected for the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennials (’85,’89)
