Durante más de dos décadas, Monika Treut, cineasta alemana icónica del cine independiente, exploró temas controvertidos entorno al género, la sexualidad y las identidades culturales. Sus películas de renombre internacional, como los clásicos de culto "Virgin Machine" y "Gendernauts", mezclan ficción y documental con una visión intrépida y sin precedentes.
Desde la realización de "Tiger Women Grow Wings" (2005), Monika adquirió un gran interés por la cultura y la tradición taiwanesa, que se hace patente en "Ghosted", primera coproducción germano-taiwanesa.
Biography:
For more than two decades iconic German independent film maker Monika Treut has consistently explored challenging issues surrounding gender, sexuality and cultural identities. Her internationally renowned films – among them cult classics "Virgin Machine" and "Gendernauts" have blended fiction and documentary in fearless expressing pioneer views.
Since "Tiger Women Grow Wings" (2005), Monika has taken a strong interest in Taiwanese culture and tradition that surfaces in Ghosted.
It is the first German-Taiwanese co-production.

| Sinopsis: | Combinando el cuento de fantasmas tradicional de Taiwán con una perspectiva alemana contemporánea, “Ai-Mei” describe una inolvidable historia de amor entre una artista alemana, Sophie, y una mujer taiwanesa, Ai-Ling. Cuando Ai-Ling fallece en misteriosas circunstancias, Sophie queda destrozada. Mientras sus memorias se despliegan por medio de flash-backs y sus propias secuencias de vídeo, la película revela las diferencias culturales que reforzaron su relación tanto como la dificultaron. En un viaje a Taipei, Sophie conoce a Mei-Li, una periodista cuya aparición en la vida de Sophie es cada vez más extraña. Como una aparición fantasmagórica, la seductora presencia de Mei-Li obliga a Sophie a afrontar la verdad sobre su amor perdido. Con una estética incomparable, sutil y conmovedora, “Ai-Mei” explora los límites entre la vida y la muerte, la memoria y la imagen. |
| Synopsis: | Combining the Taiwanese traditional ghost tale with a contemporary German perspective, “Ai-Mei” depicts a haunting love story between a German artist, Sophie, and a young Taiwanese woman, Ai-Ling. When Ai-Ling dies in mysterious circumstances, Sophie is devastated. As her memories unfold through flashbacks and her own video footage, the film reveals the cultural differences that both enhanced and troubled their relationship. Travelling to Taipei, Sophie meets Mei-Li, a journalist whose appearance in Sophie's life seems increasingly uncanny. Through a ghostly doubling, Mei-Li's seductive presence forces Sophie to confront the truth about her lost love.
