Desde el comienzo de su carrera, al final de los 70, Su Friedrich ha sido una figura destacada en la dirección de películas vanguardistas y una fuerza fundamental en el mundo del cine gay. Su trabajo ha radicalizado la forma y el contenido del cine a través de la incorporación de una perspectiva feminista y de una temática de identidad lesbiana, además de que ha creado una innovadora y sorprendente síntesis entre los géneros experimental, narrativo y documental. Las películas de Friedrich son plurilingües y transcurren con fluidez entre lo personal y lo político, pasando tanto por películas autobiográficas sobre la familia como por aquéllas que investigan las ideas de la sociedad sobre la identidad sexual. Su amplia gama cinematográfica, que incluye películas de aficionado, imágenes de archivo, entrevistas y guiones narrativos, ha dado como resultado un emocionante conjunto de trabajos que sigue influyendo e inspirando a las nuevas generaciones de cineastas independientes.
Friedrich da clases de producción de películas y video en la Universidad de Princeton.
Biography:
From the onset of her career in the late 1970’s, Su Friedrich has been a leading figure in avant-garde filmmaking and a pivotal force in the establishment of Queer Cinema. Her work has radicalized film form and content by incorporating a feminist perspective and issues of lesbian identity and by creating a remarkable and innovative synthesis of experimental, narrative and documentary genres. Friedrich’s films are multi-lingual, moving fluidly between the personal and the political, from autobiographical films about family to the investigation of society’s notions of sexual identity. Her rich cinematic palette, which includes home movies, archival footage, interviews, and scripted narratives, has resulted in a thrilling body of work that continues to influence and inspire new generations of independent filmmakers.
Friedrich teaches film and video production at Princeton University.

| Sinopsis: | Sensible y entretenido relato sobre una relación de pareja a través del vehículo que compartieron durante varios años. Un gran auto familiar con efecto madera en su exterior dispara las reflexiones de Friedrich acerca de tener un auto; recordando, primero, las felices escapadas fuera de la ciudad y las discusiones al conducir con su novia; luego, la posesión compartida del auto tras la separación, hasta que llega también el momento de separarse del auto y el descubrimiento de que la calle está llena de modelos idénticos que le recuerdan a su ex. Las imágenes de station wagons por las calles de Nueva York y el repertorio musical reviven momentos fugaces de un amor sobre ruedas. |
| Synopsis: | Sensitive and entertaining story about a relationship told through the vehicle the couple shared for many years. A big family car, of those with that wood-like effect in their exterior, triggers Friedrich's reflections on the feeling of owning a car; remembering, first, the happy escapades out of town and the discussions held during the drive with her girlfriend and, later, the shared custody after they split, until the detachment from the car also arrives, along with the discovery of the many identical models found on the street, and the fact that each of them reminds her of her ex. The images of station wagons through the streets of New York, along with the repertoire of songs, revive fleeting moments of a love on the road. |
