Sinopsis: Después de un traumático encuentro un joven gay egipcio se une al movimiento por los derechos LGBT. Cuando su seguridad se ve comprometida, ha de elegir entre permanecer en el país que vive o buscar asilo como refugiado en otro lugar. “Half a Life” es una coyuntural historia de activismo y esperanza enclavada en el cada vez más peligroso, opresivo e inestable clima social del Egipto actual.

Synopsis: After a traumatic encounter, a young, gay Egyptian joins the LGBT rights movement. When his safety is jeopardized, he must choose whether to stay in the country he loves or seek asylum elsewhere as a refugee. “Half a Life” is a timely story of activism and hope, set in the increasingly dangerous, oppressive, and unstable social climate of Egypt today.

Biografía: Tamara Shogaolu es una cineasta cuyo trabajo ha sido presentado en festivales de cine internacionales. Teniendo un MFA de la ‘School of Cinematic Arts’ de la Universidad del Sur de California, donde disfrutó de la beca ‘Barton Lewis’ en dirección. Su más reciente corto animado, “Half a Life”, fue estrenado en el MoMa de Nueva York en febrero de 2017. Tamara ha sido miembro de ‘Fullbright’ en Egipto y estudiante de ‘Luce’ en Indonesia. Actualmente reside en Amsterdam.

Biography: Tamara Shogaolu’s work has been featured at film festivals internationally. She holds an MFA from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, where she was a Burton Lewis Endowed Scholar for Directing. Her most recent animated short, “Half a Life”, premiered at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in February 2017. Tamara has been a Fulbright fellow in Egypt and a Luce Scholar in Indonesia. She is currently based in Amsterdam.
